1. How did Ug know he had grown? 2. What tells us that Ug is not totally happy with Stone Age life? 3. Why did Ug’s dad seem annoyed that Ug was grumbling about his trousers? 4. TASK 1: Green Chillies – Watch my video and we will work through the questions together.
Orange Chillies – Use your dividing skills to work out what each interval is work and what weight the arrow is pointing to. Red Chillies – use your explanation skills to explain how you work out what each interval is worth and how you find the answer to the questions. TASK 2: Mastery activity – 3 chilli levels. This time, rather than reading a scale that is given to you, demonstrate your understanding by labelling the scales and showing where the measurement would be. EXTENSION (Optional): Have a go at grams adding/subtracting dice game |

TASK 1: Create a possible conversation between Dug and Dugs. Think about… What has Ug been doing today and how might they be recalling it? How did they feel about it? You might refer to his lack of satisfaction in his trousers or his food, about his attempt at playing games with the other children or his questions about Neanderthals. Create a list that could span from the basic (fire, potato, book) to the high-tech (smartphone, tablet, satellite). How would you explain it to someone from the Stone Age? Green Chillies: Choose one word from the list and create a definition that Dug and Dugs might begin to understand. You could use a dictionary to help you. Orange Chillies: Choose two words from the list and create a definition that Dug and Dugs might begin to understand. Red Chillies: Choose three words from the list and create a definition that Dug and Dugs might begin to understand. EXTENSION (optional): How do you think Dug and Dugs would react to your definition? Based on our current understanding of the character, do you think they would react in the same way or would their responses differ? What do we look for in an effective definition or explanation?
