Mental Arithmetic

 Year 2 – Please play on TTRockstars

Year 1 – This week we are practising our number bonds to 10. Using your numbers from yesterday, time yourself to see how quickly you can match up the pairs of numbers which make 10. Try again and see if you can beat your score!   

Experience/ English 

To be able to write a haiku poem 

1. I can use the right amount of syllables in each line
2. I can write the correct number of lines 

Use your ideas from yesterday to help you create your haiku. Remember, the first line needs to have 5 syllables, the second line needs to have 7 syllables and the third line needs 5 syllables. You might come up with a couple of different poems and then you can choose your favourite one.

I noticed when I watched the video that I had miscounted ‘emerald’ on one of my ideas and had to change it! So be careful to count the syllables carefully.

Reading – Please note the changes below for RWI phonics.

Oxford Owl have made available for parents all the ebooks linked to each RWI level. This means we no longer need to upload the books to the webpage. Instead, please go to the webpage below. If you go onto ‘ebooks’ then you will need to register (this is free of charge) and then you will be able to access all the ebooks and choose the correct banded level for your child. Please note that the RWI phonics scheme is based on lots of repetition. Therefore, we usually read the same book about 3 or 4 times before moving onto a new book. For some children they may need to read it more than this to ensure they are completely fluent in reading the book (no sounding out).

 For every phonics session, please continue to watch the set 3 speed sounds at 10:30 on the Ruth Miskin Youtube channel. Then read a book from the webpage detailed above.

Guided reading – for those of you in guided reading, please complete the guided reading task on the webpage. 

Maths –

To solve change problems using methods for subtracting  Success criteria:

1. I understand what the question is asking me to do 

2. I can use my preferred method of subtraction to solve the question 

3. I can record my answer

• using the methods for subtracting learnt over the past few days, solve the change problems. It is up to you which method you use. 
• Start with ‘money problems 1’ and go as far as you can. If you start to find it tricky, label items around your house with prices. Then give yourself a number bigger than the items labelled and work out how much change you would have if you bought those items. 
• If you need an extra challenge go to ‘money problems 2’ which is finding the change to £1. Remember that £1 = 100p

To know how to use colouring pencils to shade 

Success criteria:

1. I can look at my picture and consider what colours I need to use
2. I can experiment with the colouring pencils 
3. I can colour my picture neatly 

Start by watching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_FcWFIXusA which explains how you can use colouring pencils to shade. If you don’t have colouring pencils at home then you will need to be creative with what you use on your picture. You could just use your grey pencil to shade. 

Do a quick sketch similar to the picture you drew the other day and use this to practise shading and colouring. Once you feel confident, use shading with colouring pencils to colour in your picture. Take your time to do this. Remember to build up the colours and don’t press too hard with your pencil. 

Story time –   join Miss Cuss, the year 1 teacher at Seal CE Primary School for storytime. The teachers in key stage 1 across the Federation will be sharing the stories that we have recorded.
