Take part in our cross-country competition!  Today marks the date where we would usually be taking part in our local derby race at Chiddingstone school.

To mark the occasion, the cross-country team would like to challenge all children to run/jog either 1km or 2km (your choice).

The teachers will award raffle tickets to anyone who takes part, and Mrs Murray has a special prize for the best effort and a prize for the cheeriest photo.

All you have to do is: choose your distance, complete the challenge, then post a photo below with a brief description of the course and conditions (eg were there any hills? was it muddy? what was the weather like?). you have 1 week to get your entries in on our Facebook page!

9:30 – 9:50

If you are a Lexia person you must complete Lexia during this time instead of guided reading.

Those of you doing the guided reading, there are questions related specifically to understanding the text and there is an activity based around a SPaG focus. Try to complete both if you can but if you run out of time do not worry. Where the questions are about the text, there is the letter AF and a number at the end. This just identifies which reading skill is being focussed on and is nothing for you to worry about. The answers are at the bottom of the sheet so that you can mark your work.

9:50-10:30

LO: I can identify whether angles in real life contexts are greater or less than a right angle.

SC1: I can say if an angle is greater or less than a right angle.

SC2: I can describe an angle less than a right angle and name it.

SC3: I can describe an angle greater than a right angle and name it.

How Many Right Angles? Identify the right angles hidden within a 2D shape picture on the Lesson Presentation.

Different Angles: Read through the information on the Lesson Presentation to demonstrate that angles less than 90 degrees are acute and angles greater than 90 degrees are obtuse. Use the knowledge organiser to help you as you go through the PowerPoint.

Comparing Angles: Investigate the 2D shape picture and identify angles less than and greater than a right angle. Can you tell someone what an angle less than 90 degrees is called? Can you tell someone what an angle greater than 90 degrees is called?

Clock Angles: look at how drawing lines on an analogue clock creates different angles when pointing at different numbers on the clock face. Can you identify whether these angles are greater than or less than a right angle?

Clock Angles Activity: Choose your challenge. 2 star is the easiest today and 3 star is the hardest. If you choose a challenge and it is too hard, don’t finish it, swap to an easier one. Similarly, if you choose one that is too easy, swap to a harder one. Think about which star challenge I normally give you at school.

If you finish this and you want an extension, I have added one but do not spend ages doing this. Only do the extension is you have time. This will really work on your justification and reasoning which is a very important part of your maths curriculum. Year 4 you should definitely give this a go if you have time.

Flag Angles: Can you create the semaphore flag positions for someone in your house to identify the position as acute, obtuse or right angles.

Watch the video which explains the parts of a plant and what they are for. Then have a go at labelling the plant and taking the quiz. Once you are absolutely sure you understand what the parts of the plant are, choose your level of challenge. You can either use the sheet and label the plant and explain what each part does or you can create your own drawing. You could do a combination of the two if you want to get really fancy!!

Make sure you do at least one sound check and one studio session. Try to get as many right as you can in the fastest time possible. Remember you want to be aiming for less than 6 seconds to answer a question correctly.

Watch this video on water transportation in plants.

We know that water must move through plants because otherwise the water would stay in the ground and the plants would die. When we did our harvest learning experience we wrote a paragraph about how water is transported. This time I want you to see if you can design an experiment that proves that water is transported. Think about:

How will you make your test fair?

Will you have a normal plant as your one to measure against?

How will you record the results?

How long do you think it will need to be done for?

If you are able to set up the experiment, then have a go. If you do not have the necessary equipment to be able to do it, research how other people have done it and what their results were. Can you find a way of presenting this information and sending it to me?

Exercise – e.g. mindfulness yoga, fresh air in the garden, run up and down the stairs seeing if you can get faster every time!
