LO: to know what tessellation is and understand how to create tessellating patterns

SC1: I can define what tessellation means

SC2: I can identify regular and irregular tessellations

SC3: I can create a tessellating pattern

Tessellated shapes are 2D shapes which fit exactly together, through the shapes do not have to be the same.

For instance, a tessellated pattern can be created with triangles. However, you can also use mixed shapes to create tessellating patterns, such as triangles and hexagons or triangles and squares. The only rule is that the sides must all sit flush against one another, leaving no gaps or empty spaces at all.

Tesselation also features prominently in History and Art. Traditional art forms such as Ancient Greek mosaics, Spanish ceramic tiles and stained glass windows often used tessellated patterns.

ACTIVITY: Research some tessellating patterns. These may be by famous artists, in architecture or religion or anywhere else. Choose 3 that you really like. State if they are regular, semi regular or irregular. Identify the 2D shapes that have been used to create them.

LO: to write an effective ‘falling action’ section of a story

SC1: I can make sure that I maintain the readers interest by adding detail

SC2: I can make sure that all the action and characters stay true to the story I have created

SC3: I can use my planning to make sure my story stays on track for the ending

Watch my tutorial explaining how to write an effective falling action section.

ACTIVITY: Using your planning and making sure it continues from yesterday’s writing, continue your story making sure you only write the falling action section. Use the resource sheets to help you use varied vocabulary.

Extension: if someone is able to read it and give you feedback, make improvements to your work.

Resources:

TIPS FOR FALLING ACTION

Resources from last week you can refer to:

Punctuating speech

Synonyms for said

Words to improve your description

Variety of sentence openers

My story plan for reference

For those children who would normally be in school and do not have the story at home to be able to continue writing, here are 2 Oak Academy links you can try:

To revise speech punctuation (thenational.academy)

To revise our understanding of simple, compound and complex sentences (thenational.academy)

You can look at these to solidify your understanding of speech and sentence structures.

Key Stage 2 teachers need your help!

Good Afternoon KS2,

The current lockdown has been a difficult time for everyone. So, to help in a small way and to put a smile on your faces we thought that it would be nice to put together a video for all the children across the Inspire Federation. It is a video, which we hope will provide a motivational message to everyone, and one which will give you the opportunity to support each other.

For this video, we want every child in KS2 to create a motivational poster (I have attached some examples below). These posters should send messages of support, hope and they can wish everyone well. Once we have received all the messages we will put them into a music video.

We would like you to take your time over your posters and to show great pride in your work. Make your posters bold and colourful and you can use an art media of your choice, from pencil to paint to collage. We would recommend that you first plan your ideas before creating your piece of work. You only have this afternoon to complete this work and email it to your class teacher.

We are really excited to see the amazing posters that you create!

IMPORTANT: When taking a picture of your work you must check that the image is clear and that we can read your message. Please do not show a photographic image of yourself in the picture. If you do, we will not be able to use your artwork.

Here are some examples of possible messages:
