Four Elms Primary School

Class 4 - Online learning 27/3/20

Happy Friday Class 4!

After today we have finished our first week of online learning and I don’t know about you, but I have really enjoyed it! And although I have missed seeing you all each day; I feel inspired that we can still produce some fantastic work. Even my mum felt inspired and whilst in isolation is joining in with some of our lessons.

I am back in school again today, so please bear with me for any emails, but I hope you enjoy your Friday learning and have fantastic weekends. Try and do all those things you put on your happiness shields that make you feel good!

Any questions my email address is

Break time

I love hearing about how you are all keeping active, as well as Jo Wicks and Otsi Mabuse, let me know of how you are keeping active at home.

Time to plan our stories, for the first part of your lesson I want you to mind map who the main character of your story is going to be. In order for our stories to be different I would like you to work with existing minor characters. I have modelled some options below. Think about how these characters could have their own story. You do not have to use the same one’s I have- think about the fairy tales you know and the characters within them who you don’t know a lot about (Smee, Hansel and Gretel’s parents, the wolf in little red riding hood).

Following that you need to choose 1 to work with. We are now going to use subtitles to plan out the story. You need to think about the following areas:

  • Main character
  • Other characters
  • Magical event
  • Problem
  • Resolution
  • Ending
  • Moral

See my plan below for how this should be done.

The answers to yesterdays maths are attached below. Today I did say we were going to do word problems, but sorry we are actually going to do a quick fractions assessment to go over EVERYTHING we have done with fractions so far. These questions require a lot of your simplifying knowledge so if you want a quick refresher please click on the link below. (I have also attached the answers so you don't have to wait till Monday :) )

Personal choice

Every Friday, I will give you some time to choose your activity. This is not time to do whatever you want, I want you to use the time wisely and for the activity you think will have the most benefit to you. This week’s options are:

  • Work on your 2020 year of change activity to become really good at something.
  • Write a letter to Betty or another resident of the care home (unfortunately, Joan has moved back in with her family and we do not have a forwarding address for her).
  • Silent reading- I am looking for book recommendations for April’s book of the month – email me a review and your star rating out of 5.
  • Timestables RockStars, I will be sending out some certificates today, but I would like to see more people reaching that Rock Star status.
  • Spelling- practice writing some of your Y5/6 spelling words out into sentences, if you don’t know what something means, look it up.

Here is my progress on my oil painting.

Today I would like you to try and replicate your favourite piece of Roy Lichenstein’s work in your sketch books. Make sure you are using the key characteristics of his work: bright colours, black bold outlines, Ben Day dots, humour or ‘popular things’ (you do not need to use all of these- 1 is enough). You can do this in whatever medium you like as long as you are not using felt tips or highlighters in your sketch books. Can’t wait to see your creations.

Also attached is our current raffle ticket chart as of 1.40pm on Thursday, keep up the good work guys.
