Joe Wicks virtual PE – bodycoachtv on

Take part in our cross-country competition!  Today marks the date where we would usually be taking part in our local derby race at Chiddingstone school.

To mark the occasion, the cross-country team would like to challenge all children to run/jog either 1km or 2km (your choice).

The teachers will award raffle tickets to anyone who takes part, and Mrs Murray has a special prize for the best effort and a prize for the cheeriest photo.

All you have to do is: choose your distance, complete the challenge, then post a photo below with a brief description of the course and conditions (eg were there any hills? was it muddy? what was the weather like?). you have 1 week to get your entries in on our Facebook page!

9:30 – 9:50

Guided reading/Lexia

If you are a Lexia person you must complete Lexia during this time instead of guided reading.

Those of you doing the guided reading, please spend today reading the text and familiarising yourself with it. It is quite long and we will be using it all week so make sure if there are any words you don’t know please find out what they mean so that the text makes sense and you are confident and ready to answer questions on the other days.

LO: to recognise and use right angle turns

SC1: I can turn through a quarter turn, half turn, three-quarter turn and full turn.

SC2: I can explain the relationship of turns to a 90 degree right angle.

SC3: I can use clockwise and anticlockwise correctly to describe turns.

Clockwise and Anticlockwise Turning:

Have a look through the PowerPoint slides which demonstrate turning through quarter, half, three-quarter and full turns clockwise and anticlockwise, relating turning to the number of degrees turned. To check that you have understood have a go at the Turning Maze and work out instructions to guide the robot out of the maze, using the vocabulary of turning and direction.

Where Will I Be Facing? Follow the instructions on the Lesson Presentation to find out which 2D shape the child will be facing after completing the turns.

Turning Activity: Choose your challenge. 1 star is the easiest and 3 star is the hardest. If you choose a challenge and it is to hard, don’t finish it, swap to an easier one. Similarly, if you choose one that is too easy, swap to a harder one. Think about which star challenge I normally give you at school.

If you finish this and you want an extension, I have added one but do not spend ages doing this. Only do the extension is you have time. This will really work on your justification and reasoning which is a very important part of your maths curriculum. Year 4 you should definitely give this a go if you have time.

True or False? Finally complete the quiz on the Lesson Presentation to decide if the statements describing turns in degrees are true or false.

Break time/snack time

At the beginning of every challenge we organise what we already know about things. This should be bright, colourful, have pictures and be well organised. You can present the knowledge you already have in a way that you feel comfortable but it needs to be done hand. Some of you are already doing things to do with growing at home so will have some fantastic knowledge already. Make sure you display this and really show what you already know.

11:45- 12:15

Make sure you do at least one sound check and one studio session. Try to get as many right as you can in the fastest time possible. Remember you want to be aiming for less than 6 seconds to answer a question correctly.

12:15- 1:15

1:15- 2:00

Make sure you have watched the video by Mrs Mitchell and Miss Fermor so that you understand what the challenge is for this week. We know that at the moment we are only supposed to be shopping for essential items and therefore going shopping for seeds may not be possible.

Go onto this website and discover how we can grow plants from the scraps that are left over from the food that we already have.

In your book, explain in your own words what the challenge is. Is there anything you will need to find out in order to be able to achieve it? Is there anything you need to get? Is there anyone you need to ask for help with it? Are there any skills that you don’t yet have that you need to learn?

2:00- 2:30

Exercise – e.g. mindfulness yoga, fresh air in the garden, run up and down the stairs seeing if you can get faster every time!

Complete the challenge about subject verb agreement.

if you get less than 8 try again until you get 8 or more. Make sure you put your name on there so I can see that you have completed it and how you did. I get all the results at the end of the day.

3:00 – 3:15
