Four Elms Primary School

Thursday 14th

Please see pdf of this timetable and resources attached below.

9- 9:40

Reading

RWI – watch the relevant speed sounds lesson:

Set 1 -   https://youtu.be/LG-XgL3r0iU

Set 2 –  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0fAbWyGR68

Set 3 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMa17y2nXA0

Then read the RWI book online https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/reading/reading-schemes-oxford-levels/read-write-inc-phonics-guide/

Go onto ‘ebooks’ then you will need to register (this is free of charge) and then you will be able to access all the ebooks and choose the correct banded level for your child. Please note that the RWI phonics scheme is based on lots of repetition. Therefore, we usually read the same book about 3 or 4 times before moving onto a new book. For some children they may need to read it more than this to ensure they are completely fluent in reading the book (no sounding out).

A general guide is:

1st read – decoding all the words – sound out as much as you need to.

2nd read – read for fluency (try to read with more fluency and expression).

3rd read – read with fluency, expression and comprehension. Try answering the comprehension questions at the back.

This website also provides lots of other information for parents about phonics. It has other resources on here too should you wish to explore!

Guided reading

Complete the guided reading task at the bottom of the webpage. If the reading is taking you longer than the time allocated, then feel free to share the reading with an adult.

9:40 – 10:40

Maths

Year 2

Learning objective and success criteria

To be able to solve subtraction word problems

  1. I can select relevant information from the question

  1. I can put the important information into a calculation

  1. I can solve the calculation using my preferred method

You have learnt the methods for subtraction, now you can use your preferred method to solve the word problems attached to the bottom of the webpage. You do not need to answer all of the questions. Complete what you can in the lesson time. If you need a challenge, there are two step problems involving addition too.

Watch this tutorial which explains how to solve word problems effectively:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9AD1JX43Js

At the end of the lesson, look back at the success criteria. Did you meet the success criteria? Let me know by writing a comment. If you can think of what your next step could be based on the success criteria then that would be great.

Year 1 Lesson

To use subtraction to find the difference

  1. I can create a number sentence

  1. I can represent my calculation in the dot method

  1. I can subtract from the starting number to find the missing number

Watch todays tutorial to find out how you will create the questions for your subtraction by numbers picture.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWEaVMMVXw8

You will then need to look back at yesterday’s work to find the numbers that you have chosen for each colour.

Put those numbers into the dot method alongside a number which is larger than the number you started with. Then use subtraction to work out the missing number. This will then give you your calculation that you need.

As you need to create a subtraction calculation for every part of your colour by numbers, you will have tomorrow’s lesson to complete this as well.

At the end of the lesson look back at the success criteria. Write underneath your work which success criteria you met. If you can write down what you think your target/ next step should be based on the success criteria then that would be great!

10:40 – 11

Breaktime – have a healthy snack and a play

11 – 12

English/ Rights Respecting

To understand why it is important to learn about other ethnic groups

  1. I understand what is meant by ethnic groups

  1. I can explain what we can learn from other ethnic groups

  1. I can explain what the problems are if we don’t learn about ethnic groups

Our experience is based around our anti- racism campaign and article 2 (the right to be treated fairly). We identified that in our book corner there were only a few books with characters from ethnic groups which were not White British. We thought that this was not representative of other ethnic groups. We are going to be launching our virtual library which will hopefully encourage others to read books which have characters from different ethnic groups. We need to have an introduction to our virtual library which explains our campaign. Today you are going to write the introduction by writing an answer to the following question:

Why do you think it is important that we read books with characters from other ethnic groups?

First, let’s recap some key vocabulary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nBEB0a-KnU

Then think about our question ‘Why do you think it is important that we read books with characters from other ethnic groups?’ Write sentences with correct punctuation to explain your thoughts about this question. Can you use our different sentence types?

Once you have answered this question, then write a couple of sentences explaining the purpose of our virtual library (I explained this at the top of this lesson).

The best introduction will be put onto our virtual library page.

At the end of the lesson look at the success criteria. Did you meet all of the success criteria?

12- 1pm

Lunchtime and playtime

1- 1:15pm

Wellbeing Assembly

https://youtu.be/5X3GgubM_Ys

1:15-1:30pm

Mental Arithmetic

You can choose whether you would like to continue using your flashcards to help you learn the doubles to 10(year 1) or 20 (year 2) or you can play on topmarks ‘hit the button’. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

You will need to select ‘doubles’ and then either doubles to 10, doubles from 5 to 15 or doubles from 10 to 20. I would suggest that everyone starts with the first option and then work your way through them as you get quicker.

1:30 – 1:45pm

Spelling/ handwriting

These are your spellings this week. Write them down over and over again in your neatest writing. If you find the spellings hard you can try the easier ones.

You could listen to relaxing music whilst you do this, like we do at school.

1:45 – 2:30

Foundation subject

Seasons

Learning objective and success criteria:

To know how weather reports are given

  1. I know what should be included in a weather report

  1. I know how to communicate effectively in a weather report

  1. I can plan my own weather report

Go through the video to find out about weather reports and creating a plan for your own weather report.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJt3iza-jk4

 During the video you will be asked to watch two YouTube videos the links are below;

https://youtu.be/HSHNkT-V7LY - BBC weather forecast

(66) Sesame Street: Grover Weather Monster - YouTube - sesame street weather forecast

Once you have watched the videos you will be planning your own weather report

. Think about:

  • What season you are in?

  • What is the weather like?

  • How long is the day? (when does the sun rise/set?)

  • What might you do in this weather?

At the end of the lesson look back at the success criteria. Write underneath your work which success criteria you met. If you can write down what you think your target/ next step should be based on the success criteria then that would be great!
