Time

Learning

9-9:30

Joe Wicks is no longer running on a Tuesday but you can go back and do one of your favourites from his other workouts. Or alternatively you could have a look at other exercise options e.g. cosmic Yoga, Just Dance, Zumba, Les Mills for kids etc.

Get yourself moving and exercising as it will set you up for a great day of learning!!

9:30 – 9:50

If you are a Lexia person you must complete Lexia during this time instead of guided reading.

Today your guided reading questions are based on comprehension. These will focus on the different skills we use in reading including retrieval, summarising, inference, questioning and prediction. Make sure you use the text to support your answers where necessary.

9:50-10:30

Maths

LO: to read, write and plot coordinates in the first quadrant.

SC1: I can label the x-axis and y-axis.

SC2: I know that a coordinate is represented by two numbers in brackets, separated by a comma.

SC3: I can read a coordinate correctly by going along and then up.

Around the Town: Using the scene displayed on the Lesson Presentation, rehearse the language of position and direction by making mathematical statements about the position of the objects and the direction and routes between the objects.

Reading, Writing and Plotting Coordinates: Use the information and images on the Lesson Presentation to understand that a coordinate is a way to locate a position on a map or graph by indicating how many units along, and how many units up the position is. Recall yesterday’s lesson when we discussed the x-axis, y-axis, and quadrant features of coordinates and how they are recorded inside brackets, separated by a comma. It is very important to read and write coordinates in the correct order (along then up).

Drawing a Coordinate Grid: work through the step by step instructions and on the Lesson Presentation of how to accurately draw and label a coordinate quadrant using a ruler and pencil.

Coordinate Connect 3: Using the coordinate grids drawn in the previous activity take it in turns to roll two dice to create a coordinate. If you do not have a partner you can do this independently. Using different coloured pencils, plot the coordinate on the grid. The first colour to get three coordinates in a row wins.

Pirate Map Coordinates: Choose your challenge. 1 star is the easiest and 3 star is the hardest. If you choose a challenge and it is too hard, don’t finish it, swap to an easier one. Similarly, if you choose one that is too easy, swap to a harder one. Think about which star challenge I normally give you at school.

If you finish this and you want an extension, I have added one but do not spend ages doing this. Only do the extension is you have time. This will really work on your justification and reasoning which is a very important part of your maths curriculum. Year 4 you should definitely give this a go if you have time.

10:30-11:00

Break time/snack time

11:00 – 11:45

English (2 part lesson)

Part 1 -

LO: to recall the 5 Ws for reporting and identify them in several texts

SC1: I can list the 5 Ws used when reporting

SC2: I can explain what information the 5 Ws provide in a report

SC3: I can identify the 5 Ws in a variety of newspaper articles

Yesterday we started thinking about newspaper articles and their key features. One of the features is the fancy facts otherwise known as the 5 Ws. These key question words will help us to identify the key information within a text and by doing this it will help us to understand what we need to put into our own newspaper report. Remember, we learn from looking at examples of the type of writing we are going to be doing and using this as a frame. Magpie-ing is a fantastic thing when it comes to writing.

Activity 1: In your book create a table with the 5 Ws identified across the top and space for 3 article down the side. Look at my version if you need help with how to set this out. Choose 3 article from the 5 I have typed up and put on the website. Identify the information within the text and fill in the table.

Part 2 –

We are doing this part now because you need enough time to be able to collect the information ready for your report.

One of the other key features of a newspaper report is quotations. In order to be able to include quotes we need to ask questions like an interview. You can choose who you ask these questions to. You may wish to ask family and friends. Alternatively, you could send your questions in we will choose a selection of them and interview some of the staff at school; this could be Miss McCann, Mrs Mitchell or the class teachers.

You need to think carefully about what your questions will be about. I have chosen to do my Corona Virus Lockdown report for the time capsule of random acts of kindness. This way I can build on my knowledge from the previous challenges. All my questions relate to the positives (I want this to be a positive article about how amazing we are to inspire future generations.) Think carefully about your questions to get the best information to include.

Watch this video of me interviewing members of staff about their experiences to get some ideas. J

11:45- 12:15

TTRockstars

Make sure you do at least one sound check and one studio session. Try to get as many right as you can in the fastest time possible. Remember you want to be aiming for less than 6 seconds to answer a question correctly.

12:15- 1:15

Lunch

1:15- 2:00

LO: to research time capsules

SC1: I can use the internet to find factual information

SC2: I can take notes to answer questions

SC3: I can carefully consider if the information I have found is true/accurate

This afternoon you are going to begin your research about time capsules. If you are able to use a computer that is fantastic but if not, start by using a dictionary to find the meaning of the term time capsule. Thinking back to Miss Fermor and Mrs Mitchell’s video there are 3 key questions that we need to find the answers to:

  1. What is a time capsule?

  1. What do people normally put in a time capsule?

  1. What are time capsules normally made of?

You need to look through a variety of sources. Think back to our e-safety experience where we learned about how results are gather on an internet search and that the first result may not be the most relevant. It is important to remember that anyone can put anything they want on the internet so the information you find needs to be looked at for its reliability. It is also useful to look at a variety of articles as they can give you additional information and you can make sure that your research is in fact accurate. You can use notes to record your findings. Remember your presentation skills during this, even with research and note taking presentation and accuracy is important.

You can record your research in any way you would like. I have given you a picture of mine but you could use bullet points, bubble diagrams, spider diagrams, mind maps etc.

2:00- 2:30

Exercise – e.g. mindfulness yoga, fresh air in the garden, run up and down the stairs seeing if you can get faster every time!

2:30-3:00

LO: to research the answers to the questions I had about time capsules

SC1: I can use the internet to find factual information

SC2: I can take notes to answer questions

SC3: I can carefully consider if the information I have found is true/accurate

For the final part of the afternoon I want you to look back to your original page for ‘gather and organise’. What did you want to find out about for time capsules? For example, I wanted to know when the first one was invented. Use this time to find the answers to these questions.

3:00 – 3:15

Federation Story Time!!
