Four Elms Primary School

Tuesday 31st March 2020

 Good Morning Class 3,

I have had my first attempt at doing some videos so bare with me while I practise my craft! :) At the very least it might make you laugh! Adults, there are some ideas on here for how to support some children who might be struggling a little, particularly if you have younger ones like I do. It's great to get everyone involved and doing it at the same time so some of these things might help. As we move forwards with online learning I will do my best to add these things in to help you at home.

I have sent the English powerpoint through to your adults emails as I couldn't get it to upload. I look forward to seeing what amazing things you come up with!

LO: to estimate and measure using g and kg

•        Today we are going to start with weighing mass.

•        Firstly, revision of key vocabulary. List any words you know that could be used for weighing the mass of something. Now circle the ones that are metric and we will be using for our challenge.

•        Have a look at the PowerPoint. I want you to see if you can choose the most appropriate weight for each of the items. How many did you get right? ‘What’s the weight?’ ppt.

•        Now choose a selection of 5 everyday items. First draw a table with 3 columns for items, estimate and actual. Can you create a table in your book, write the name of the item, have a guess at how much it weighs and then actually weigh them? How close were you? Finally, can you order them from lightest to heaviest?

10:30-11:00

LO: to understand what imperative verbs are and to identify them in instructions

•        Open the PowerPoint on imperative verbs which explains what these are and how they are used. Complete the activities in your book as you work through the PowerPoint. (On the spin the wheel activity do 3 or 4 sentences before moving on.)

•        When you have been through the presentation, look at the activity sheets and choose your challenge. This will probably depend on how confident you are. If you choose a challenge and zoom through it, perhaps set yourself the task of trying the next level.

•        Finally, I have included an imperative verb maze if you get time. Identify the imperative verbs, colour them in and the trail will lead you to the end of the maze. Try not to look at the answers until you get to the end!

How many ideas can I think of?

Part of this challenge is the fact that you may be limited on ingredients, so you can see from my example that I started by compiling a list of what I have in the house to be able to do this.

I have done this on a whiteboard first with the help of my lovely assistants, then we added the information to our learning journals so that once we were recording our ideas we focus just on spelling and presentation.

Once you know this you can start to come up with ideas that you can do using these ingredients. You might want to ask an adult in the house to help you with ideas, look through recipe books or research on line. At this point we want to come up with as many different ideas as possible so that we can choose the best one.

We already know from our leaning at school that the first idea we have often is not the best idea we have. See how many you can think of. Don’t forget to include pictures (maybe your own designs or ones you have found for inspiration).

2:00- 2:30

Exercise – e.g. mindfulness yoga, fresh air in the garden, run up and down the stairs seeing if you can get faster every time!

2:30-3:15

IDL Numeracy –If you still need to do the assessment, please complete this. Try and keep a record of how many questions you completed and then each week you can challenge yourself to get further. Otherwise continue with the lessons.
