Guided reading - A Place for Plastic

Tutorial Time!



  1. What plastic objects can you see now with more of a close-up view?
  2. What journeys do you think some of these objects have been on to reach this destination?
  3. How does this picture make you feel and why?
  4. What impression do you get from the use of the word ‘smother’?
  5. How long do you think the trainer and the pirate have been in the ocean and why?
  6. What is meant by ‘This is a plastic place, but not the place for plastic’?
  7. Describe the weather in this picture.
  8. What might the bag and the pirate be hoping for?
  9. What do you think the bag has learned from its journey so far?

LO: to understand how to add and subtract using formal written methods

If you are not feeling confident with the formal written methods, practise your addition and subtraction using the sheet called - Addition and Subtraction Sums

If you are feeling confident then have a go at the addition and subtraction assessment.

Break time/snack time

Exercise – e.g. mindfulness yoga, fresh air in the garden, run up and down the stairs seeing if you can get faster every time!

You need to keep your body active so that your brain can keep active too.

LO: to understand what word classes are and identity them in sentences

SC1: I can name 6 word classes I have learnt about so far this year

SC2: I can define the word class and give examples of each

SC3: I can identify the word classes within a text

Activity 1 (everyone should complete this) - match the word class to the definition and give an example of each one.

Activity 2 - choose the green, orange or red chilli challenge and use a colour code to identify the work classes in the text. Check your answers using the answer sheet. Remember to change your challenge level if it is too easy of too hard.

ACTIVITY: Now you have finally finished your art project, today is a chance for you to evaluate and reflect on your experience overall. There are a list of questions (attached) that we would like you to consider, but it is up to you how you present your ideas! Well done! You have completed the project and we can’t wait to see your results!
